"An Architect's Builder"
"As both the architect for our house project, and client with my wife of our extensive home reconstruction, I had almost daily contact with Chris a bout the progress of the project and all the many decisions needed to keep in going. We brought Chris in after another contractor who started the project left unexpectedly, and late in the construction season, so there was a very immediate need to have Chris put together a competent crew rapidly and understand the drawings quickly. He and all the crew members were extremely professional in walking us through how the project could be staged and what kind of regular communication needed to occur to complete the project.
Chris was also readily reached by phone when issues had to be discussed or decisions were needed at night or over the weekend to allow us two busy working clients to confer. There were the usual issues related to trying to get outside suppliers coordinated and changes that had to be made as we saw the work progressing, and Chris handled all the relationships with outside parties very well and represented our interests at all times.
I have recommended Chris over the years to several other people as someone who is not just a good craftsman but also a great collaborator to work with as an architect, and a trustworthy and seasoned project manager to have work on your own home.
The project Chris and his crew and subcontractors worked on for us was very demanding in the details and design elements. Complex roof intersections, curved wall surfaces, and finish tolerances of less than 1/16" made the design more like building a boat or a fine automobile than the standard median finish level house. Chris has a very strong sense of aesthetics and made some suggestions about the design that we incorporated as they were well considered ideas that improved the intent of the design.
The project was almost a total reconstruction of a 1950's home for which the prior contractor had not even finished rough framing, so Chris is to be duly credited with the appearance of the final project. The home garnered an Obispo Beautiful design award, and was also featured in an American Institute of Architects "Green Building" home tour. As an architect who is very demanding of top quality workmanship, and has done several extensive home remodeling projects for my own family as well as for personal friends, I would rank Chris as the best contractor for single family home work I have worked with."
